Follow the Transhumance of the cows in Aveyron and Lozère :

The transhumance of the herds up to the mountain summer pasture is always a crucial moment for life on the Aubrac, which takes place to the tune of festivals and get togethers. It’s also a great opportunity to celebrate spring to the sound of the bells of the Aubrac cows (they’re the ones that look like they have khôl eye-liner) : herd decoration, milking demonstration, local market, it’s at Saint-Geniez d'Olt (Aveyron) on 22nd and 23rd May 2015, Saint Chély d'Aubrac (Lozère) on 23rd and 24th May 2015.

And on the 10th and 11th October 2015, it is the Davalada, the herds come back down again to return to their stables, the perfect occasion to celebrate!

And the transhumance of the sheep in Lot and Cantal :

The transhumance of the flocks up to the mountain summer pasture is always a crucial moment for life in the Lot Valley and for the second time, it is happening between the départements of Lot and Cantal.

From 30th May to 14th June 2015 with 15  stages, over 180 km, 1000 sheep will progress from the Lot to the Lioran in Cantal where they will stay until mid-September.

From the Quercy arid soil to the green Lioran resort, the flock and its guides will take you through amazing sceneries, discovering the local products and the ancient traditions of local shepherds and farmers.

The Saint Bourrou at Marcillac-Vallon (Aveyron)

Sound the trumpet! The bandas orchestras are coming to entertain the medieval streets for three days of festivities. Giant aligot, fun fair, open air dancing and especially the procession of Saint Bourrou, patron saint of winemakers to ask the Virgin (Mary) for a rich grape harvest.

The High Lands at Saint-Flour (Cantal) :

You can see everything that is grown in the mountains in the cité cantalienne, and for the 10th year running. Program includes: concerts, street entertainment, balls, theatre, exhibitions, the chance to meet stringed instrument makers, craftsmen and producers.

The "Médiévales d'Estaing"

For one week-end, the whole village of Estaing is transported back to mediaeval times. Here we are in the 13th century, the mediaeval market abounds with local produce, craftsmen display their works and groups of troubadours liven up the streets with their juggling and traditional music. There's a banquet on Saturday evening and the winner of the Tristan challenge will be dubbed knight under the watchful eye of the Estagnols in period costume.

The "Festa Del Païs" at Saint Flour (Cantal) :

When Agriculture has a party, with all sorts of entertainment : milking demonstration, cheese making, horse harnessing, threshing in the old style, local produce and crafts market. A gorgeous window on the rural world.

Sainte Foy Festivities in Conques (Aveyron) :

Saturday : procession in the village at night, with torches and celebration
Sunday : solemn celebration and religious service, starting with a procession in the cloister around the Majesty of Sainte Foy (9th century reliquary-statue) at 10:30am, mass and festivities, vespers.


2013 marked the 1000 years celebration of the writing of the Book of Miracles of St-Faith, by Bernard of Angers (in Conques around the year 1013).
